MORE than 20,000 fans have registered online for free tickets to watch the final round of the European Open today -- and they could be in for a rare golfing feast. Hiddink Ranks Cup Win As Career High [Eire Region]

GUUS Hiddink hailed winning the English FA Cup as one of the greatest achievements of his career but Everton counterpart David Moyes claimed Chelsea's victory was a blow for homegrown managers. Bid for Independents From Cowen Country to the Capital, How Party Faithful Are Abandoning Ff [Eire Region]

IN A sign that Fianna Fail is racked with rebellion and dissent not seen since the GUBU days of Charlie Haughey, more than 20 former Fianna Fail members have left the party and are running as independent local authority candidates around the country. Once ruled with a fist of iron by Eamon de Valera and Sean Lemass, the party now sees even Brian Cowen's home county of Offaly as a hotbed of dissent with three senior figures resigning from Fianna Fail.

It May Be Just a Slogan, but It Delivered Hope to the Usa. Can We Also Deliver Real Change This Friday? Yes We Can... [Eire Region]

THIS Friday is not a general election. But it should be. When the nation's voters go to the polls, we will be asked to vote for our local councils and for three or four MEPs. Some of us will be asked to elect a new TD in a by-election. And there are many who will argue that each of these polls should be treated separately: that you should vote for the local councillors with the best prospects of improving your local council area; the MEPs with the best chance of getting a good deal in Brussel...

At Last, the Bizzie Lizzies Get a Chance to Shine [Eire Region]

Gardeners all over Ireland got a shock this weekend when they looked up and saw a cloudless blue sky. This was also good news for Bizzie Lizzies, tomatoes and many other plants that can now decamp outdoors. Here are some tips for the garden this week. [broken bar] Peonies are a perennial plant which are just starting to flower. They're outstanding, particularly the doubleflowering varieties. Sarah Bernhardt, which has delicious double-pink flowers, is a great example. Plant in full sun, not t...

Let's See Him Survive On Eur 204 ; Letter of the Week [Eire Region]

SO BRIAN LENIHAN thinks social welfare rates are a disincentive to work? It is not welfare that is the real disincentive - it is Fianna Fail's economically illiterate policy of inflating during the bubble and deflating during the depression, thus increasing unemployment and worsening the State's finances. During the boom, unemployment was less than 4pc, proving that, when jobs are available, people are willing to take them. This reminds me of the 1980s (doesn't everything now?) when Geraldine...

Roddick Belies Clay Doubt with More French Glory ; Tennis [Eire Region]

Roscommon Will Only Lose Wideboy Stigma If We Win, Says Mannion [Eire Region]

YOU'VE PROBABLY read the Chuck Norris-inspired GAA emails. Replace the teak-tough celebrity's name with a similarly indomitable footballer or hurler and eulogise their superhuman gifts. For example, when Francie Bellew stares into the sun, the sun flinches. Or, when Noel Hickey orders a Big Mac in Burger King, he gets one. Roscommon don't have any but if they had they'd likely be about the totemic Karol Mannion - although they would be slightly less impressive: When Karol Mannion plays pool h...

Mcgrath Calls On Teammates to Regain N Home of Hurling Status From Cats [Eire Region]

'THE MUMPS,' Shane McGrath says. 'I wouldn't wish them on anybody.' Kilkenny might have thought otherwise when James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick and then Michael Fennelly contracted the virus after the Tipperary All Star midfielder but he had nothing to do with it, he insists. Honest. Anyways, didn't his teammate Conor O'Mahony get them too and there might have been a couple of fingers pointed in McGrath's direction for passing it on had the centre-back not made today's team. All silly stuff, of course...
