Hailed as the next Nicole Kidman, Australian actress Abbie Cornish is living up to the hype. Last October she saw her latest film, Somersault, sweep up 13 of its 15 nominations at the Australian Film Institute Awards, and picked up her own gong for best actress. 'I don't think it's really hit me yet,' she says.
'Receiving my award, my heart was jumping out of my chest, I was so nervous.' Raised on a farm in New South Wales, Abbie, 22, left home at 16, and, after dabbling in modelling, slid into acting. 'I fell in love with it,' she says. 'I could be creative and express myself, and have a job; how great is that?'
