Summary
In the excellent Mexican thriller, Miss Bala (it means Miss Bullet) **** pretty student Laura, from Tijuana, dreams of winning her state beauty pageant and earning the title Miss Baja California. Played in a star-making turn by Stephanie Sigman (possibly the new Salma Hayek), Laura is celebrating getting through to the final round of the competition when a masked gang attacks the nightclub and takes her hostage. The gang boss takes a shine to Laura and forces her to become his mule, a pawn in a bloody war of betrayal among gangs, corrupt government and the US-led Drug Enforcement Agency.
Director Gerardo Naranjo shoots in snaking, long takes, his camera tracking - as if forcing Laura at gunpoint - along corridors, through streets and into deserts, as she tries to flee but is re- captured.See the full content of this document
