MICHAEL VAUGHAN'S squad have been urged to withdraw from their tour to Zimbabwe this autumn by the man who went from being captain of England to becoming one of this country's most outspoken religious leaders.

The retired Bishop of Liverpool, Lord Sheppard, who as the Rev David Sheppard was both a Test cricketer and a fierce campaigner against South Africa's apartheid policies, believes Vaughan's players may have to sacrifice their own ambitions so that English cricket can express its revulsion at the ruthless regime of President Robert Mugabe.
