Edited by JENNY LITTLE Sixth-formers have four days of nail- biting left before the A-level results are published and they can begin the scramble to find a university place. But more bright youngsters are shunning university even when they make the grade and are instead turning to vocational training in an attempt to dodge soaring student debt.
While university applications are down 3.5 per cent this year, apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular. They offer paid employment, training on and off the job and the chance to study for a degree, paid for by the employer.
