YOU can tell a lot about a country by the welcome you get at passport control. Ive become used to suspicious, sullen faces examining my picture in disbelief that the girl in it is actually me. So my reception in Oman came as a pleasant change.

I was met with a huge beaming smile and told: Welcome to my country, is it your first time? Youre gonna love it enjoy, enjoy. But that is Oman for you, a rich colourful country, steeped in traditions, with hospitality at its very core.
