HARSH treatment meted out to Western companies such as BP and Shell could result in a backlash and an investment strike in Russia, leading UK businessmen have warned.

The first signs of a reaction against the forced departure of TNK- BP chief executive Robert Dudley came when Russia's Micex stock market plunged 4.8 per cent on Friday amid concerns that the West may think again about investing in Russia.
