Summary
Gaite Parisienne (VAI, .Pounds 29.99 inc p&p 01634 832789) ***** is a real collector's piece: a bootleg film, made in 1954, of an enchantingly silly ballet by Leonide Massine. It was shot by an amateur called Victor Jessen, whose hobby was secretly recording performances with a cine camera hidden in a briefcase.
The performance, led by the legendary Alexandra Danilova and Frederic Franklin (still working at 95), is effervescent with wit, style and energy, and there is a fascinating documentary with it.See the full content of this document
