VETERAN banker Henry Jackson is set to emerge as the new owner of MFI Furniture Group's loss-making retail division with his Merchant Equity Partners private equity fund.

Final bids for the 200 stores are due in tomorrow, but it is thought that Merchant's proposal is the frontrunner ahead of Apax and Argyll Partners, the only other bidders still in the running.
