Barclays Banksi and the rise of the Polish pound Barclays Banksi and the rise of the Polish pound We visit a branch where 90 per cent of customers are from Poland and find out how it is meeting its new clients' needs On a wet morning in Barclays' branch in Ealing, west London, there is a queue of customers waiting to pay in cheques or withdraw cash. It's a scene repeated at banks across the country, of course, But there is a subtle difference to this queue. One customer is wearing a bright red cap with a Polish flag on the front, while another is speaking loudly in Polish on her mobile.

Ealing has one of the largest Polish populations outside Poland, with more than 40,000 expats. Unofficial reports say that as many as 1.5 million east Europeans have moved to Britain over the past three years the vast majority coming from Poland.
