IN 1987, engineer Ken Costello was poised to launch a business manufacturing gearboxes. It looked hugely promising. The Department of Trade and Industry offered Pounds 2.5 million of financing, and potential clients, including Jaguar, Ford and Maserati, had expressed serious interest.
Ken, who is now a widower and has a 42-year-old daughter, says senior staff at Barclays gave him verbal promises of a substantial loan. Ahead of that, Ken deposited Pounds 250,000 into his Barclays business account.See the full content of this document
