ANNE ROBINSON has beaten off threats to cut her Pounds 3 million a year contract with the BBC by agreeing to present its flagship consumer affairs show Watchdog - eight years after she left the programme.

The move will make Ms Robinson, 64, the most powerful female star on British television. She has safeguarded her contract at a time when other BBC stars, including Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton, have been forced to accept a pay cut.
