Last night, there was excited speculation that his case which raises questions about how the infection occurs may provide a breakthrough in the search for a cure.

'It is tantalising for scientists wanting to create an HIV vaccine,' said Professor Jonathan Weber, one of Britain's foremost HIV/AIDS experts.
