I'M BUSY folding up our towels at the side of a pool in the fierce late afternoon heat, occasionally glancing down over the hotel terraces towards the rocky cove, across the turquoise sea and out to a tiny island. My teenage daughter Storme is spread out beside me, sunbathing. I've been here before - but not in real life. I'm on the north coast of Crete, close to the resort of Malia, where a new film based on the cult television series The Inbetweeners is set. I have a part in the film, alongside my daughter - as a disgruntled and disapproving mum.

We actually filmed in Majorca - which was made to look like Malia - but, intrigued, Storme and I decided we'd set out to discover what it was really like in the land of The Inbetweeners movie. In the film, four teenage boys celebrate the end of their A-levels by heading off to Malia. It's their first time away without parents, teachers and anyone to tell them: 'No!' They set out in search of riotous fun and frolics with girls. They fail to get either, but they do have horrendous ant bites, unwanted tattoos and severe sunburn.

I'd barely heard of The Inbetweeners before making my movie debut in the film. But my 18-year-old daughter, a more experienced actress, most definitely had. The TV comedy series is an obsession among teenagers who follow the futile attempts of four suburban youths - Will (played by Simon Bird), Simon (Joe Thomas), Jay (James Buckley) and Neil (Blake Harrison) - to rebel and grow up.
