I'm booked on a Ryanair flight in a couple of weeks' time, and if I thought that I would get any kind of a decent price to the same destination with Aer Lingus at this late stage, I'd rebook with the former national carrier. Because I prefer to have a pre-assigned seat? Because Ryanair's 'sell, sell, sell' cabin crew would do your head in? No, actually - because I'd be able to fly out of that spanking new thing of beauty that is the Dublin Airport Authority's Terminal 2.

Make no mistake about it, the justopened terminal is a thing of considerable beauty and something that - even in these grim times - is a cause for celebration. Watching it grow over the past couple of years, the structure itself became more and more impressive every time I pitched up at Dublin Airport. Now, it seems, that distinctive space-age look, all sleek silvery lines, has also been carried through to the interior. I once knew a brilliant newspaper photographer who would practically blow a fuse when working under pressure and in poor conditions on a feature story. 'This is no good, no good,' he'd rant. 'What I need here is time... and light... and space.' Well, John, welcome to T2.
