Summary
Just as indie rock reclaimed the British music scene from an infestation of TV-spawned light entertainment acts, it now looks likely to do the same in America. In the States there is no single phenomenon equivalent to Arctic Monkeys, nor the boy-next-door army of thoughtful lad-rockers behind them; but the success of two US bands in particular tells much of the story.
