MY NOVEL The Botticelli Secret is a detective story that travels through the most beautiful cities of Renaissance Italy. At its heart is Botticelli's famous painting Primavera, which hangs in Florence's Uffizi Gallery.

Does the painting conceal an extraordinary mystery? For centuries, classical scholars have argued about the identity of the mysterious figures shown in the painting, coming up with competing views on what the work actually means. Do the figures represent Renaissance cities - is there an important political message concealed here? In my book, Luciana Vetra, a Florentine courtesan, goes on the run around Renaissance Italy, pursued by assassins, in a race against time to decode the painting.
