Los Angeles is hardly a romantic city but it's the setting for two romantic comedies this week. In Search Of A Midnight Kiss (15) **** is one of the most enjoyable indie films I've seen in ages - with its smart talk, slacker characters and monochrome photography, it harks back to the heyday of Jim Jarmusch, Hal Hartley and Kevin Smith.

Set on New Year's Eve, we follow lovelorn Wilson (Scoot McNairy) on his quest to find a date for that midnight moment.
