Summary
There have been two housing crises in my lifetime, the first in the Forties and early Fifties and the second is happening now. The first was caused by the Luftwaffe, the second by the British Government.
The housing shortage of the Forties was created by bombs that destroyed part of Britain's housing stock. Few new houses could then be built because building workers were in the Forces, or employed in post-war reconstruction.
