Summary


BT is demanding a cut in the amount it pays into a new pension lifeboat scheme in a move that has sparked a major row with the Government.

The telecoms giant claims it should pay less into the Pensions Protection Fund because the Government guaranteed to protect the pensions rights of hundreds of thousands of staff transferring from the public sector when the company was privatised in 1984.
