For first-time buyers who are scraping together enough money to buy a home, furnishing it is often an afterthought. But I think it is a false economy to skimp on quality when trying to kit out a home within a budget.

If you pay peanuts for your furniture and accessories, you'll get rubbish that doesn't last, so I now go for recognisable brands that offer quality and style but still fall within a reasonable price range.
