When Sennheiser set out to create the best headphones in the world, the German company shunned the usual approach of adding soft calfskin, exotic woods and strokeable metal panels. Instead, it focused on the sound. The 'luxury' aspect of the HD800s is cold, hard technology. Due in the UK next month, the HD800s are made of steel mesh and noise-damping plastics from the aerospace industry. They are so light you barely know they are there - but the revolutionary doughnut-shaped speaker inside (see below) delivers incredible sound. Distortion of the original recording is just 0.02 per cent.
