VETERAN actor Ian Carmichael - best known for his portrayals of upper-class toffs, including Bertie Wooster - has died aged 89.

Tributes were paid yesterday to the star of film and television, who died peacefully on Friday at his Esk Valley home, on the North York Moors, after falling ill over Christmas.
