BEFORE this week, I had cried only a handful of times in my adult life: when my parents died and, yes, once or twice during the ordeal of trial-by-leak before being finally exonerated over Labour's 'cash for peerages' allegations. But to watch the televised horror of innocent Palestinians and Israelis facing terror, injury or death has brought tears to my eyes.

They are tears both of sadness and anger.
