DWAIN Anthony Chambers ran strongly, confidently and successfully through a raw and blustery Birmingham evening. And British athletics was plunged into bitterness and chaos in the space of 10 seconds flat.

By winning the 100metres at the British Olympic Trials, Chambers struck the blow which the British Olympic Association had dreaded. Now there was no irrefutable sporting reason for denying him a place in the Olympic team. Now the entire matter would be decided by Justice Colin Mackay, sitting in the High Court on Wednesday.
