Surround sound is the last word in home-cinema luxury, but the cat's cradle of wires you need for your average six-speaker system means the female of the species are unlikely to welcome Dolby 5.1 into the home without a fight. This all-in-one from Philips might be the answer: a full-featured system with six decent speakers but without the wires running from your TV to the space behind your sofa.
The sleek design of the HTS9800W system, and the fact that the six flat-panel speakers are all wallmountable, just adds to the fairer-sex appeal. Techno geeks, however, are more likely to coo over its ability to 'upscale' DVD footage to high-definition by 'cleaning' the picture so you see more detail. Just add an HD-ready set and you're good to go. It's not quite the equal of top- resolution HD via Sky or Telewest's broadcasts, but it's not far off and a great deal cheaper than the upcoming HD-friendly Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs.See the full content of this document
