Katie Melua, Britain's biggest-selling female artist for the past two years, is not only a ridiculously talented singersongwriter. She's also stunningly beautiful (in a Kate-Bush-meets-Natalie- Imbruglia sort of way) and a young woman with a romantic-sounding past.

Born in the Republic Of Georgia, close to the Black Sea and part of the former Soviet Union, she lived until the age of nine in a region where having no running water or electricity was the norm. Her father, an eminent heart surgeon, moved the family first to Belfast and then to London when she was 15.
