This film is about a seduction,' says Hayden Christensen, sitting next to his onscreen seducer, Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine), who turns him to the Dark Side. 'Ian does such a perfect job of mixing charm with evil. In the last film you got an inkling that my character, Anakin Skywalker, was being nurtured by Palpatine. In this one, it comes out.' Episode III Revenge of the Sith may be the bleakest blockbuster ever made. Earlier Star Wars episodes have told stories about love, war or politics; this final prequel tells of the corruption of a noble young warrior by a suave politician, becoming Darth Vader, villain of the first Star Wars film.

'The black heart of the saga is not Vader, though he's black enough,' says McDiarmid.
