Kristian Digby can remember exactly where he was when he heard London would host the 2012 Olympics. The presenter of long-running BBC1 property show To Buy Or Not To Buy had piled everything into building a house from scratch in Stratford, East London.

'I was filming in Brazil when my architect rang. I thought it was going to be yet another No from local planners but from halfway across the world he shouted, "We've done it. It's been approved." Then, a day later London won the Olympic bid and the main development would be on my doorstep. It was the most wonderful piece of timing.' He describes the area as 'aesthetically challenged' but is convinced it will be transformed for the Games, with the Olympic Park and its sports complex and Olympic Village, where 2,800 new apartments are to be built.
