IRISH Life & Permanent chairman Gillian Bowler, has insisted that neither she nor any of the board knew about the 'dodgy deposits' to Anglo Irish Bank.

In an email to staff last week, Miss Bowler made her abject apology for the behaviour of its executives but insisted that neither she nor the rest of the board knew of the society's E7bn bailout for Anglo, just a day after the bank guarantee scheme was introduced by the Government last September.
