There are few Government actions more cynical than waiting for pensioners to die off so they do not receive justice and compensation. That is what is happening to the million savers and pensioners of Equitable Life. The Parliamentary Ombudsman says they are the victims of serious maladministration by Government departments in the Nineties.
But the Whitehall machine has rolled into action to protect its own and Treasury minds have been set to work to create an obstacle course of time-wasting, procrastination, legal challenges and sheer obstructiveness to ensure that justice is delayed and preferably denied.
