THOUSANDS wandered down Wembley Way in shirt sleeves and replica shirts on a sunlit afternoon in London yesterday. Men with cameras paused near the main entrance to photograph the statue of Bobby Moore as young children asked their fathers who they were looking at.

With an hour still to kick off, schoolboys proudly marched around the Wembley stadium perimeter in their playing kit.
