We British blooms might be a bit behind in the devotion we pay to our complexions certainly compared to America, where every woman worth her makeup mirror has her own dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon. Now, however, a growing number of those physicians are formulating their own high-performance, therapeutic ranges dubbed cosmeceuticals so we can enjoy the benefits of their experience at home.

Next week, another contender joins the ranks. Two years ago, natural beauty company Origins invited the eminent American physician Dr Andrew Weil, who's one of the brightest lights in integrated medicine, to help design a range of 'wellness skincare products', which launches here on 28 May. The first to hit the counters are Mega-Mushroom Face Serum (from Pounds 40 for 30ml), an edible-sounding concoction blending Asian mushrooms with health- promoting ginger, turmeric and holy basil, and its partner Mega- Mushroom Face Cream (Pounds 45 for 50ml), which laces the fungi with narcissus lily bulb and seaweed extract.
