After a dramatic, eight-month overhaul of his six-bedroom Holland Park mansion in Queens Place, which he calls The Tardis, Sir Elton John, the King of Maximalism, and partner David Furnish have ditched exquisite antiques and Biedermeier furniture in favour of a light and airy white-walled look.

There's a discreet collection of black-and-white photographs and new designer furniture in the house, where the centrepiece is now a bespoke black-oak and acrylic spiral staircase in a glass atrium rumoured to have topped Pounds 100,000.
