GRATITUDE was the farthest emotion from Steven Fletcher's mind when Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie threw out a bid from Celtic in January. Frustrated at being denied the big move he craved and feeling his five years' first-team service at Easter Road deserved better, Fletcher voiced his discontent in strong terms during a face- to-face summit with Hibs' notoriously prudent paymaster.

Petrie listened politely but refused to budge and the transfer deadline passed with the player remaining on the Hibs payroll.
