Errors, court threats, then a 242 refund Miss K. S. writes: I moved out of my flat in Brentwood, Essex, and lettings agent Countrywide read the meters. Several weeks later, I received the final bills and paid the agent.

However, British Gas then wrote threatening court action over 22 it said I owed. It explained that its meter man had since been to the flat, and Countrywide had read the wrong meter. I protested that any reading after I moved out should not apply as I was no longer the tenant. I also contacted Countrywide, which said that British Gas had read the wrong meter.
