I read with surprise your article last week about alleged Nimbyism in Essendon, Hertfordshire.
Rural England faces an acute shortage of affordable homes, leaving primary schools and post offices facing closure as fewer people can afford to live there. Our plans for a Community Right to Build will change that, putting power in the hands of local people to preserve village life and approve developments. Those plans that get the backing of residents in a local referendum will go ahead. This new plan stems from my first meeting with the villagers of Essendon, in my constituency who, were desperate stems from my first meeting with the villagers of Essendon, in my constituency who, rather than opposing development, were desperate for more affordable homes to keep their community alive.
