Who can doubt the Proms form the most accessible music festival in the world when this season's programme is so mouth-watering, and you can 'prom' for Pounds 4 and get best seats for Pounds 30?

Mellor's Top Ten is more than usually difficult to compile because two of this year's three themes really hit the spot for me: Bohemian music in honour of the centenary of the death of that most lovable of composers, Antonin Dvorak, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Leos Janacek; and English music, marking 70 years since the death of Elgar, Holst and Delius and the birth of Peter Maxwell Davies and Harrison Birtwistle.
