THOUSANDS of charity fun-runners will unwittingly pour at least EUR 1m into the coffers of commercial organisations this year - instead of the good causes they believe they are supporting, the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Races including the upcoming Spar Great Ireland Run and the Great Limerick Run are charging entry fees of up to EUR 80, claiming to support charities ranging from Marie Keating Cancer Care to Our Lady's Hospice in Dublin.
