Summary
Despite a starry cast, The Company Men (15 Pounds 19.99) suits the small screen better than it did the cinema. On your TV, it could pass as a sobering, modern-day antidote to Mad Men, because it deals with the grinding effects of corporate downsizing on the male psyche.
Ben Affleck plays a family man who loses his executive job and with it the trappings of a successful life. Nor are his more senior colleagues, played by Chris Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones, spared the recessionary axe. The film chronicles the soul-crushing hoops unemployment makes dignified men jump through. Kevin Costner plays Affleck's sneering blue-collar brother-in-law, a builder who offers him a job getting his hands dirty with 'proper' labour.See the full content of this document
