'So I went into a chemist and said very quietly, "Have you got anything for lice?"

The assistant shouted back, "Mr Finney, we sure have." That's when I realised that I was famous at the wrong time.' It's a typical Finney anecdote, recounted with relish in his deep, resonant voice and with no trace of embarrassment. He is, though, long past the stage when he worries about his public image.

Nor is he the type of person who gets a kick out of recalling past glories.
