ENGLAND'S forgotten heroes of 1966 are to receive the World Cup winners' medals they were denied more than 40 years ago. And Wembley Stadium is set to be the venue for a ceremony to honour the 11 men who were part of Sir Alf Ramsey's squad but not lucky enough to have played in the final against West Germany.

The Football Association wrote to the game's world governing body, FIFA, last week requesting permission to present the medals ahead of England's next scheduled international, at Wembley in February.

The FA have been quick to respond to FIFA president Sepp Blatter's announcement at the World Cup draw in South Africa last weekend that all players who missed out on winners' medals from 1930 to 1974, when only the starting teams and used substitutes received medals, will be retrospectively rewarded.

Now the FA hope to get together all 11 Englishmen from 1966 who formed the back-up squad, on February 6, when Switzerland are pencilled in to provide the opposition at Wembley.
