The most intriguing rumour emerging from the Mexican stand-off over the future of Walt Disney is that Mel Gibson is lining up investors to buy the Magic Kingdom.

At first blush, the speculation seems silly. Disney has a market value of $48 billion (Pounds 27 billion), big debts and would need someone to pay a hefty premium to entice investors to sell.
