WITH the most arduous leg of Ireland's four summer internationals now done and dusted, there is still the small matter of a friendly with Italy on Tuesday night in the inauspicious surrounds of Leige.

Giovanni Trapattoni's men came home from Skopje early this morning, and tomorrow travel to Belgium for the friendly with Azzurri but will do so with their playing resources further depleted by withdrawals. Veteran internationals Shay Given and Kevin Kilbane will not travel with the squad to the Stade Maurice Dufranse Stadium, after informing Giovanni Trapattoni of their wish not to take part. The two players are vocal critics of those players who went truant, for a variety of reasons, ahead of last week's Carling Nations Cup clashes against Northern Ireland and Scotland, but the pair will return to England today in a bid to bring certainty to their club futures.
