It has consistently been voted Britain's best venue in NME and other music bibles. Oasis travelled up from Manchester on spec to the venue on St Vincent's Street for a gig in 1993 and got signed to their first record deal here. Manager, Dave McGeehan led us up from the bar on the steps, which represent each year of its 20 in existence. Each one has the name of an illustrious band and the year of their debut ( 1994 was a particularly good year). It commemorates the visit of Pulp, Blur and Radiohead. A Snow Patrol gold disc adorns a wall. It holds only 300 and it drips with atmosphere and history.
