THE future has been largely disappointing. It's not just that we don't live in space colonies, eating pills. Or that instead of the 'no walking' I was promised as a child (moving pavements) we are now meant to walk even more than we already do. No, it's the work thing that is the worst. Wasn't there a future where we played instead of worked? Robots were going to do it or lovely anarchists would redistribute the work equally, so everyone just did a few hours a day.
