Butter has never been more popular. Despite decades of marketing by the manufacturers of more healthy alternatives, Lurpak butter beat Flora margarine to become Britain's bestselling spread last year with a 20 per cent rise in sales to Pounds 228million. Other butter brands have seen sales double, accounting for nearly half of the spreadable fats market last year, according to market researcher Nielsen.
As a dietician, I try to persuade patients to shun processed foods, so why am I unhappy that so many choose to eat butter?
