SANDRA JOBLING, my business partner in our production company, is on the phone asking: 'Robson, how would you like to film a special episode of Wire In The Blood in Austin, Texas?' 'Texas?' I reply, 'Where in some parts it is illegal for children to have unusual haircuts? Where it is against the law to milk another person's cow? Oh, and where the Encyclopaedia Britannica is banned because it contains a formula for making beer at home?' 'The very one,' Sandra replies and then adds: 'George Bush lives there.' 'Yee haa! Sounds like the place for me.' S

So within a few weeks my wife Vanya, our seven-year-old son Taylor and I are heading for the land of the Alamo. 'Will there be bugs, Daddy?' Taylor enquires.

Taylor's head is buried in his favourite magazine - Horrible Science - and, without warning, he declares: 'There are nasty things called chiggers over there.' It is a word that will come to haunt us during our time in Austin.

On our arrival we realise instantly that Austin has a vibe. We pass sign after illuminated sign urging us to 'come inside and listen to live music'.

There is country, folk, jazz, blues and bluegrass all being played within a square mile of each other..
