WHO could possibly be mad enough to imagine that what this country needs now are more taxes and more layers of government? Answer, apparently: the Green Party. According to a top-secret Government White Paper seen by the Irish Mail on Sunday, the coalition junior partners intend to inflict both on us.
The Greens call it 'local government reform'. Anyone else would call it lunacy: a local VAT that would add up to 10pc on the price of goods and services, a hotel tax that would be forced on our already three-quarters-dead tourism industry, an increased second- home tax, and what looks like the reintroduction of domestic rates dressed up as a 'general services charge'.See the full content of this document
