A Wild Shot ; Guest Reviewhow Do You Keep an Eye On Wild Beasts at Night? Our Man Thinks He has the Answer

Summary

I've had a passionate interest in the natural world since I was child, and I always wanted to own some land. So in 2008, when I could finally afford it, I bought eight acres of Essex woodland to use as my own private nature reserve. I love watching it evolve over the seasons, but I often get the sense I'm intruding on the wood. Which is why I was excited to try out the Bushnell Trophy Cam, an all-weather infrared camera. I wanted to see what the Muntjac deer, foxes, badgers and rabbits get up to when I'm not there.

It's a solid piece of kit; the casing is robust and comes with heavy-duty clips and waterproofing strips to keep out damp. On the front there's a motion sensor, camera lens and 32 infrared nightvision LEDs. The camera's menu functions and SD memory card slot are tucked safely inside, and I was pleasantly surprised by how simple it was to operate. While it's far from hi-tech and lacks a colour playback screen, it has plenty of timer and multi-shot settings to choose from.
